Tunnel, Dash refinements

Weds.21.11.07. It has been suggested that the present gearbox tunnel cover does not have sufficient ‘sexy’ curves implying it is incongruous with the overall lines of the vehicle. It must, therefore, be re-modelled with ‘rounder’ shoulders. So much so that the morning has been spent cutting two additional top pieces of 4mm ply, each slightly smaller than the other, these were then laminated together and glued to the tunnel. The remaining ‘down curve’ has also been reinforced with other strips of ‘ply’ to form a thicker substantial surface facilitating the profiling of the desired contoured form.
Returning to the dashboard, the problem of displaying the switch ‘titles’ has been solved by a 15mm ‘routered’ slot that has been cut and located directly below the actual controls. I must confess that this simple ‘trough’ proved to be quite difficult to fashion.
After several experimental efforts the challenge of the ‘real deal’ had to be met. The task was achieved by the aid of a straight wooden guide that had been clamped to the bench allowing the ‘Router’ to move only in a straight line, which in turn produced the controlled parallel groove. By using increasingly larger ‘bits’, to increase both depth and width, the necessary effect was created. With some later fine sanding this latest final addition should now complete the definitive dash design.
