Mon.04.09.06. The engine side panels have been re-cut to fine tune the fit; a coat of yacht varnish has been applied to seal the edges. Later these panels will be taken to Andy and Mark to be covered with aluminium, then permanently fixed to the car. To split the half shafts it was necessary to saw through the inner hub spacer and bush, this then released the vertical link enabling the outer hub and bearing to be drawn through. The remaining rubber bushes on the upper and lower wishbones were first of all drilled in several places which then enabled them to be knocked through using a nut and bolt as a bush puller.
A decision has been made regarding the ordering of the components. Rimmers will receive the bulk order. I don’t know when this will happen as each day it is promised it always seems to be forgotten, the first opportunity was 19.06.06: so I am not holding my breath. Procrastination springs to mind. I have reservations as to whether Steve of ‘Triumph Nuts’ could actually access all of the parts immediately. He does have the contacts, but I suspect such a large order would overstretch his financial resources. We also suspect that we would be drip fed the components whenever he has been able to source them and not the definitive itinerary that we require. The smaller, forgotten items or even the reconditioned head are possibilities but if we have learned any lessons throughout this project it is ‘never to rely upon the enthusiastic amateur’. There are more of them festering in the ‘fuck off bin’ than I would care to remember.
After today I have finally accepted that the deadline for completion will not be met.
