Mon.28.04.08. Roy Summers has only been able to supply two types of nuts and bolts that we have requested. The illusive domed headed nut that holds the hinged windscreen mechanism to the housing bracket he has been able to source but none of the other countersunk slot headed bolts that hold the aero screens to the scuttle top, the rear view mirror screws and the dummy air vent screws have not been supplied. He has, however, dispatched four milled edged bolts, which could act as the dashboard fastening assembly. Typically these are only 18mm long but really should be 30mm if they are to anchor properly. I sense another modification on the horizon.
The project has experienced another slow week with delays in supplies and the tardy finishing trades of Michael. Richie can be forgiven as the dashboard work comes ‘gratuit’ being a matter of goodwill.
Weds.30.04.08. This has been quite a dismal month with very little progress achieved with the project. I had been in France for the early part of April but Chris has been pre-occupied with his kitchen so I must admit that I also have been pulled in various directions, I cannot remember the last occasion I had beavered away in the cellar, cleaning grubby, rusty components, sanding, drilling and polishing timber and cutting endless pieces of MDF.
The next, possibly the most rewarding aspect awaits: Michael promises the remaining pieces of trim by Friday, Richie is not a million miles away from completing the dashboard, the carpets could be ordered and cut, the conclusive cosmetic assembly engaged. I am at a loss as to the best way to approach these issues knowing that the ‘kitchen’ presently must take priority, but I do worry as each week and month passes the car is fading into a forgotten pastlife.
